How Covid-19 Vaccine is Beneficial

By: Ashly Rodriguez

With 2020 being a year filled with fear, it is important to be thankful that this virus will end with this new vaccine. Contrary to what some may think, getting this new vaccine will not make you sick with COVID-19. There have been many speculations that the government wants to purposely make us sick; however, this is not the case. According to the CDC website, clinical trials of the vaccine were tested beforehand to ensure that they are safe to use on the general public population. The vaccine will help you by ensuring you have the antibodies to not experience any extensive illness.

Having this vaccine will ultimately protect those around us, which should be a priority, especially in the case of elderly people. The CDC states that this vaccine will offer the best protection during this pandemic. Healthcare workers and those older than 75 will be the groups getting vaccinated first. This will be very beneficial by preventing less death to those we care the most about and are at higher risk. If you are concerned about getting this vaccine, know that there are health officials who will be monitoring how people react to this vaccine. Experts can decide if changes need to be made within the U.S. vaccine recommendations.

It is also important to note that there is a chance of having allergic reactions to this vaccine. The CDC recommends that all vaccine recipients, including pregnant people, should talk with their healthcare provider if they have a history of a severe allergic reaction (e.g., anaphylaxis) to any other vaccine or injectable therapy (e.g., intramuscular, intravenous, or subcutaneous).

Although this vaccine is underway it is important to still follow the CDC’s guidelines to further prevent the spread of COVID-19. The vaccine does not inhibit the transmission of the virus even though it reduces the chances of someone getting sick from it. The CDC’s safety guidelines include:

  • Wearing a mask
  • Staying at least six feet away from others
  • Avoiding crowds
  • Washing hands with soap and water for 20 seconds
  • Using hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
  • Following CDC travel guidance
  • Following quarantine guidance after exposure to COIV-19
  • Following any applicable workplace guidance
